Forest Haulage CPC

All HGV drivers must do 35 hours of periodic training every 5 years in order to retain their Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).

The FISA Forest Haulage Working group has been planning a focused course that will deliver a 7 hour Forest Haulage CPC +F module for drivers. This will include drivers of timber haulage vehicles, low loaders, materials deliveries and fuel tankers. The FISA working group recommend that Harvesting FWM’s undertake the training to better understand haulage issues and that this is classed as Continual Professional Development (CPD).

The course was successfully piloted last year at a session delivered in Lockerbie. The module is wide ranging and covers topics such as strapping to mental health! It is anticipated that drivers will be issued a card/sticker to proudly carry on their person or display in the truck window.

The FISA recommendation to the industry is that over the next 5 year CPC period, all HGV drivers entering the Forest environment should include undertaking this Forestry module as part of their statutory 5 x 7hr CPC training requirement.

The course has set up to be delivered by Benslie Training with dates pencilledin for later in the year, Covid-19 dependant. Consideration will be given to those hauliers with in-house training/ existing providers applying to have their CPC courses ratified/deemed +F.
