Tilhill Forestry, February, 2019
Tilhill Forestry welcomes Investment Forester Sam Booth to our Investment and Property team.
Sam is a Chartered Forester with more than 10 years’ experience in managing a wide range of forests for a wide portfolio of clients representing private and, estate and the corporate and institutional sectors. He has an in-depth knowledge of the management and appraisal of commercial and amenity forests.
Sam has worked mostly in Scotland and north England and for the last five years was involved in the development of a new forest management business with a previous employer. During this period he developed his business unit through the successful sourcing of new clients and delivery of projects to meet their objectives.
In February 2019 Sam joined Tilhill Forestry’s Investment and Property Team. He is based in the Central Scotland office in Dunblane. Sam draws on his management and appraisal experience to advise clients on investment opportunities.
On joining the team Senior Investment Forester, Bruce Richardson said: “We are delighted to have Sam join our team at this very busy time in the forestry market. He brings with him tremendous experience as a forest manager having worked extensively with private and institutional clients across Scotland and England and is well known and respected across the industry through his work with FISA (Chair of the Worksite management working group) and as a regional committee member of the ICF. Sam will be based in our Dunblane office, providing additional capacity to help Tilhill’s clients source and acquire forestry properties across the UK.”
Tell us a bit about yourself. Where were you before joining Tilhill Forestry?
I’m a Yorkshireman who has made Scotland my home. I’m married to Catherine and have a 6 month old son, Edward, who provides a never ending source of amazement and fun which is helpful on cold wet mornings.
I’ve always worked in the forestry sector and love the outdoors. Hobbies and passions are shooting, skiing, mountain biking, running but most outdoor activities are enjoyed especially when with my wife and son – and spaniel.
From 2013-2018 I worked for EGGER Forestry developing their forest management business in SW Scotland, and then briefly worked as a forest manager in south England before joining Tilhill Forestry back in Scotland.
What skills do you feel you will bring to Tilhill Forestry’s Investment and Property Team?
I have over 10 years’ experience in managing a wide range of woodlands for a wide range of clients. More recently I was responsible for business development, client seek out and service delivery for my management unit.
What are you looking forward to most about your role?
Working with an experienced, knowledgeable team and working with the clients. I enjoy variety and this new role sounds ideal for that.
