BBC Article – 5 Cheap Ways to Remove CO2 from the Atmosphere

The BBC recently released an article written by Matt McGrath, Environment Correspondent listing 5 cheap ways to remove CO2 from the atmosphere.

He listed:

1. Coastal blue carbon

2. Planting trees

3.Forest management

4. Agricultural practices

5. Biomass

The article mentions that global deforestation has been a significant factor in driving up emissions of carbon, so researchers feel that planting new trees or restoring lost areas is a simple and cheap technology that could be expanding right now and our team here at Tilhill Forestry completely agree.

Tilhill Forestry’s Forest Manager, Alex MacKinnon commented on the recent article:

“Great to see a piece on 5 cheap ways to remove CO2 from the atmosphere, and we provide 2 of the top three! Planting and managing trees sucks CO2 out of the atmosphere while at the same time creating a healthy and pleasant environment for us and wildlife to thrive in. Harvesting those trees for timber and other long-lived products can then lock away the carbon stored for years and years to come.”

Andrew Baker, Forest manager in Southern England and regular writer for Tilhill Forestry on climate change and forestry says:

“Climate change: Five cheap ways to remove CO2 from the atmosphere – A recent article from the BBC, highlighting how afforestation, forest management and agroforestry can play vital roles in the fight against climate change. These operations already underpin the majority of the work we undertake at Tilhill Forestry, with the development of BECCS technology potentially enabling us to further enhance our positive environmental impact.”
