Alasdair Baxter

Alasdair Baxter, Assistant Forest Manager

Alasdair has many qualifications in forestry, technical chainsaw, tree climbing, urban forestry and arboriculture. He started as a sawmill machine operator in the early 90’s and attended the Scottish School of Forestry with a placement at Balmoral estate.

Following University he went into forestry, felling, extracting, fencing woodland creation and general estate duties in Perthshire before to serving as a Royal Marine in various countries including Belize, Kosovo and Afghanistan.  

After seven years’ service he left to work for SSE as a utilities Arborist.  Running an arb squad cutting back trees from powerlines throughout Scotland. Further to this he was involved in the clearing of storm damaged trees and the reinstatement of the electrical network after storms. 

In 2008 he worked at Scottish Power as a tree site coordinator. Managing the safety and continuity of the electrical network by maintaining an electrical safety clearance from trees. Organising the owner consents, power outages, Arb contractors and rolling 4-year tree cutting program. 

He set up his own business in 2011 as a self-employed arborist working in mostly the domestic sector and in the oil industry as a rope access inspection technician working on oil rigs and refineries. 

In 2019 Alasdair completed an online distance learning degree with Myerscough College, gaining a FdSc in Urban Forestry and Arboriculture.

Alasdair joined Tilhill in 2021.
