Lot 1 contains part of the site of the Battle of Glen Shiel and comprises the western block of Glen Shiel Forest. The forest was first established in 1929/30 with a mixture of Sitka spruce, Lodgepole pine, Mountain pine, Scots pine and Norway spruce. 17.51ha of mature crops remain, comprising intimate mixtures of Norway spruce and Scots pine, and Scots pine and Lodgepole pine, with smaller stands of pure Sitka spruce.
Lot 2 was established in the 1920s and 1930s with a series of diverse commercial conifer crops. Parts of the forest were felled in the 1960s and replanted in the early 1970s with Sitka spruce and Lodgepole pine.
Further fellings occurred in the 1990s and were restocked with Sitka spruce dominated crops. 87.49ha or thereby of the growing crop is now dominated by spruce with a wide diversity of age classes. An extensive area of open ground amounting to 84.37ha provides opportunities for deer management.
Lot 3 was established in the early 1930s and significant areas of the original crops were felled in the 1960s and 1990s. 16.41ha was restocked in 2001 with Sitka spruce, and Sitka spruce with a lesser element of Scots pine. Retentions of Mountain pine and Sitka spruce from the original plantings extend to approximately 5.87ha.
